Bushey & Oxhey Care - Volunteer Drivers & Telephone Duty Officers
The Bushey and Oxhey CARE scheme began in 1969 and provides support to those who are elderly and housebound by providing transport to and from medical appointments, by assisting people in essential activities like shopping, collecting prescriptions and pensions. Volunteers are required for in the following roles:
Drivers
To collect clients from their home and take them to appointments (mainly medical) arranged by the Duty Officer. Drivers are not expected to accept every job they are offered and may specify which day or half day they are likely to be available.
Drivers must hold a current driving licence, have a taxed car with MOT and have a DBS check, which Care will arrange. Drivers can claim petrol expenses
Telephone Duty Officers
Telephone Duty Officers receive telephone calls from clients requesting drivers. They are then required to telephone drivers from a list to arrange transport and then call clients back to confirm arrangements. Officers also receive reports by telephone or email from previous day’s Duty Officer and write up record files by hand or on computer. The cost of phone calls can be claimed.
